The Fears and Dangers of the World of Skin Whitening
Following the recent ban of hydroquinone in many countries, there has been a wide debate regarding the safety of skin whitening products and their respective ingredients.
So, whatâs safe and whatâs not in the world of skin whitening?
The following are the findings from a report conducted on behalf of SW+SS Skin Whitening by Dr Jonathan Lindenberg, skincare adviser.
-Hydroquinone. Although Hydroquinone is a very strong inhibitor of melanin production, it has been banned from various countries due to the link found with cancer. It is considered to be an irritant above 4% concentration and can be an unstable ingredient in formulations of cosmetic products.
-Mercury. Highly Toxic. Both an acute and chronic poison. Its carcinogenicity has been well documented.
-Arbutin. It contains the chemical glucosylated hydroquinone. It can be extracted from various types of berries and pears. No studies have been made regarding its toxicity, but there are fears that it can have the same links with cancer found in Hydroquinone.
-Tretinoin. It is a derivative of Vitamin A. It has various uses in dermatology, including skin whitening. It can cause thinning and dryness of the skin. Sensitive skin types can also experience redness, scaling, itching and burning.
Behind the Scenes
The Bush presidency has gone from lame duck to cooked goose. It happens to every second term and sometimes first term incumbent presidents. They are written off as gone, done, over with and no longer a threat to ones future career; however, with Barack Obama, this concept has been taken to a new level. Obama is the force behind the scenes (many of them).
Everyone at the weekend Economic Summit wanted to meet the president-elect, but, Obama is being especially cautious about the economic summit, letting President George W. Bush represent the nation. But in the Democratic radio address Saturday, Obama subtly made the point that the summit was only a beginning. “I’m glad President Bush has initiated this process because our global economic crisis requires a coordinated global response,” he said.
The operative word is “initiated”. Obama will finish it.
Then there’s the Congress that’s being called back into a post election session. Congressional leaders are making it clear that any massive recovery plan will have to wait until next year. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, in letter to Republican leader Mitch McConnell on Friday, indicated the Senate’s work this coming week will be limited to proposals to increase unemployment benefits and to the more complicated task of rescuing Detroit’s automakers with a billion emergency loan. Let’s let all the economic troubles be laid at the feet of the current administration.
The Bulls & Bears at Davos
The 40th anniversary of the Davos Annual Meeting is a defining moment for world leaders as they meet under the theme “Improve the State of the World: Rethink, Redesign, Rebuild”. Over 2,500 leaders from over 90 countries representing business, government and civil society will work together on pressing challenges.
And, like last year the bears are brandishing their claws again, even as investors declare it’s time for them to hibernate. Billionaire George Soros, Nobel laureate Joseph Stiglitz and Roubini Global Economics LLC Chairman Nouriel Roubini return to the Swiss ski resort this week warning the economic recovery will prove weaker than financial markets are betting and the 10- month rally in global stocks may falter.
The timing could hardly be worse, coming just as major banks and securities firms announce bonuses for 2009!
Total executive compensation for the year is expected to be nearly 0 billion for U.S. institutions alone, based on an examination of securities filings. Public wrath is running as high as ever, with everyone from President Barack Obama to tabloid editors taking aim at bank executives. Worse still, Davos and the bonus season come amid blanket coverage of the catastrophe in Haiti. “It’s a double-edged sword,” says Leslie Gaines-Ross, chief reputation strategist for public-relations firm Weber Shandwick. “Davos represents a serious forum and they should be part of it. But, to Main Street, it’s the Alps versus Haiti right now.
My Take on Silver Spring Real Estate
I work in real estate, and I do pretty good business. People often ask me, “How do you do so well?” Well here’s my secret, I’ve found an area that sells itself. It’s no secret that Silver Spring Real Estate is hot. The market for housing is high anyway, and the area is to die for. Close to major hubs of business and entertainment, all in Maryland, all rich in history and culture. If you’re into seafood, few other places can beat Maryland in that department. For me, having lived in both Baltimore and DC, and found neither to suit my fancy, Silver Spring is a fantastic place to be. The outlook I have on places like Baltimore and Washington is, nice to visit, but I really wouldn’t want to live there. The area is close to both, so whenever I need, or want, to go out on the town, for business or pleasure, it’s quick and easy to do. I don’t want to sound like a spokesman for the city, or anything like that, but I am simply enamored with the place. I think that the best way for me to get the point across is to tell you about my experiences in the area.
